Nigeria: Nasarawa Records 12 Cases of Lassa Fever
Lafia — The Nasarawa State Commissioner for
Health, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe has said that 12 cases of Lassa fever have
been recorded in the state between December 2011 and now."About 12 cases are confirmed. One case of death has also been confirmed. The two other suspected cases of deaths were unconfirmed. They died before we could get their blood samples for laboratory tests", he said.
Speaking at the flag-off of distribution of relief materials to vulnerable groups in two local government areas of the state, he said, "We have enough drugs to treat all cases of Lassa fever at the Dalhatu Araf Specialists Hospital (DASH)".
The commissioner, who said the government is prepared to eradicate the disease from the state, said the government has set up a task force to sensitize the people about the disease and how to avoid it.
