Robbers Kill Girl For Resisting Rape
Mans’ inhumanity to man would aptly describe the terror and callousness perpetuated on a 20-year-old lady, who was shot dead, by a gang of suspected armed robbers, for refusing to be raped.The incident which occurred in Igboukwu street in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, occurred when the robbers invaded the compound, and killed the girl by shooting her, after attempt to have sexual intercourse failed.
A resident of the compound who preferred anonymity, told Saturday Tribune that the robbers whose numbers could not be ascertained, killed the lady and abandoned her body in the compound during the robbery operation.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ebonyi State Command, Mr John Eluu, said the police had deposited the body of the girl in a mortuary, while an autopsy would be carried out by doctor.
The Police Public Relations Officer, said investigation had commenced into the matter, but added that no arrest had been made.
He appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that would help the police in arresting the culprits.
When Saturday Tribune visited the scene of the incident, the residents of the street and other adjourning streets, have deserted the area for fear of being arrested by the police.
