THE chairman of Dangote Group, lhaji Aliko Dan-gote, has said Ogun
State can become the giant of Africa, if it explores all its potentials.
He said this at the Ogun State Investors’ Forum on Tuesday, adding
that the state would develop economically if genuine investors had the
oppurtunity of investing massively in infrastructure.
Dangote urged the state government to complete the Olokola Free Trade
Zone (OKFTZ), saying that the place would become the biggest seaport in
Africa.
“Ogun State has what it takes to become the giant of Africa. As you
know, the state has a place where it shared boundary with Ondo State and
that is the place we call Olokola. The Olokola Free Trade Zone is a
place where we can built the biggest seaport in Africa.
“The Olokola, rather than people going to Lagos to clear their goods
which takes week upon weeks; we can now have 24 hours clearing as a
reality. Unless we build a new port, 24 hours clearing is impossible in
Nigeria; it will never be achievable,” he said.
Dangote also advised the state government to collaborate with
Bi-Courtney Highway Services on how to fast-track work on the
Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, saying that “I will want the governor to sit
down with the concessioner of Lagos Iba-dan Expressroad.
“If Ogun is able to get the right genuine investors to put up massive
infrastructure, we’ll have more businesses than what we have put
together in the whole ports in Nigeria, as much of the businesses will
come down here.”
