HTC Gives Devs More APIs, Including Beats Audio
HTC has released a new batch of application programming interfaces
(APIs) for developers looking to target HTC devices and its Sense
platform. The new APIs include a lockscreen API, mobile device
management API, an HTC MediaLink HD API, and the Beats Audio API. This
last API is notable, because HTC is using Beats Audio integration, for
which it paid $300 million, as a way to differentiate its handsets from
those of its competitors. HTC said that Sense 4.0 buries the Beats Audio
API deeper into the software so that it works with all music/audio apps
on HTC devices and not just the Beats Audio app. Giving the API to
developers further expands the range of possible apps capable of using
the Beats audio technology. The new tools are being made available
through the HTC OpenSense SDK for developers.
