PH to help host next World Economic Forum

After President Benigno Aquino’s debut at the World Economic Forum annual achieving here, the Philippines has opted for host the next annual WEF summit devoted to East Asian concerns.

Aquino announced in a chat with Philippine journalists covering him Friday night (Swiss time) that this Philippines would host the WEF Eastern Asia Summit in 2014.


Myanmar is hosting this Asian-focused regional WEF summit this holiday season, taking over from Thailand’s hosting in 2012.

“Of course, you won't be as widely attended because the one here in Davos. Yet again, it puts us at the center stage of the world map for that period, which is something like July or so, ” Aquino said.

The WEF East Asia summit is attended by about a thousand business leaders, policy-makers, academicians in addition to civil society.

“The details must be worked out. It was agreed to us and I accepted hosting the big event, ” he said.

The Leader met with WEF founder in addition to executive chair Klaus Schwab, a German economist, during his visit to Davos.

Deemed by many because the de facto private sector representative of the world, WEF is an independent international organization dedicated to improving the state of the globe by engaging business, political, academic and other leaders of society to design global, regional and industry daily activities.

The theme of the 43rd Entire world Economic Forum Annual Meeting is actually “Resilient Dynamism” given various challenges faced from the global economy.
