Nigeria: Stop Importation of Food, Oyedepo Tells FG

The Chancellor of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, Bishop David Oyedepo, has called on the Federal Government to put an end to the importation of food items which he described as poison into the country.
He made this call while reacting to a lecture titled, "Mono-Metallic Reforming Catalyst Life and Mortality: A Replica of Human Life and a Panacea to Better Health" delivered at the second inaugural lecture of the institution held at the University Chapel, Cannanland, Ota, Ogun State.

The Chancellor condemned the massive importation of food into the country and noted that the consumption of local food items if prepared at moderate temperature is capable of promoting longevity of life and reduce mortality rate.
"We should look inward and stop importing poisons in the name of food.
"It is regrettable that about 70 per cent of food consumed in Nigeria is imported. We import food we do not have ideas of how they are grown and processed" he said.

He appealed to leaders in the country and Nigerians to begin to find home grown solutions to the country's problems even as he pointed out that life span has continued to drop in the country as a result of all manner of food the citizens consume.

Oyedepo observed that essentially, human beings live and die largely by what they eat and noted that the longevity of our fathers was largely due to what they ate and how such foods were prepared.
The guest lecturer, Prof. James Omoleye, in his presentation said the electronic age of micro wave oven has forced us to eat food at high temperature and noted that there was need to investigate if body temperature was the safest for daily food consumption. "What low temperature of food preparation and consumption will help us avoid the formation of toxins without compromising the level of indigestion to useful body nutrients? Without sounding dogmatic, one can reasonably infer that the thermostatic human body temperature of 37.8 C has been purposely designed by the creator as the optimum temperature for good health and when it goes up to about 39 C it portends danger", he argued.
