Money laundering: Ibori now to be sentenced today

THE money laundering case involving former Delta State governor, Chief James Ibori, at Southwark Crown Court in London, United Kingdom, continues today.

The trial judge, Anthony Pitts, is expected to hand down his sentence today after the trial closes.
The main charges to which Ibori pleaded guilty on February 27 were money-laundering and conspiracy to defraud, for which the maximum penalties are 10 and 14 years in prison respectively, Reuters reported.

A British prosecutor on Monday had charted the extraordinary rise of Ibori from “a petty thief in London to a powerful governor in Nigeria.”
